Gameplay:


When we uploaded our game to itch.io, we encountered an issue where the glow around the player didn't transfer to the game when it was uploaded. We spent hours troubleshooting it last night but couldn’t resolve the problem. Despite this, everything else works perfectly, as shown in the video running on the Godot simulator. However, you can find the full project description on itch.io with the uploaded game.

How to Play the Game:

Core Mechanics:

  • Spirit: Your spirit illuminates the path and reveals hidden areas. However, if you shine it on bats lurking in the dungeon, they will be drawn to you. Once a bat spots you, it uses echolocation to alert nearby bats, revealing your location.
  • Health: Both the player and enemies have health bars displayed above each character, indicating their current health.

Controls:

  • Movement: Use WASD to move around.
  • Combat: Aim with the mouse and shoot by right-clicking or by pressing P. If you run out of ammo, press R to reload.
  • Light Candle: Press Space to light the candle and win
  • Death/Exit Options: Upon death, you can choose to restart or exit. You will also have these options after winning by finding the Ultimate Torch (an item that illuminates the map and takes you out of the dark dungeon, winning you the game).

Initial Thoughts:

  • Immersive Mechanics: The limited visibility from the aura creates a tense and suspenseful experience, making every decision feel impactful.
  • Detailed Design: The game offers a realistic and detailed environment, with mechanics and effects that enhance immersion. The kill count tracks how many bats you’ve defeated, adding a competitive element.
  • Exploration Challenge: Navigating the expansive dungeon map keeps you on edge while searching for the Ultimate Torch. Bats appear in specific areas, encouraging you to strategize to minimize encounters. The final boss, a terrifying devil-like monster, is a deadly force. One hit from this creature results in instant death, making it a significant challenge to overcome and reach the Ultimate Torch.

Experience Highlights:

  • Atmosphere: The dark dungeon and narrow cone of light from your aura make the environment feel tense yet adventurous.
  • Gameplay: Balancing between staying hidden and exploring while avoiding bats provides a fun and engaging challenge.

Replayability: The bat behavior and dungeon layout create unique encounters each time you play, encouraging you to try again and improve your performance.
